In conjunction with the introduction of Family Scouting for Cub Scouts (with separate Dens for Boys and Girls), new editions of the Cub Scout Handbooks were issued in September, 2018. The new editions also incorporated the advancement changes which were published on-line in November, 2016, then released in print form as an addendum to each Handbook. The changes shown below are changes from the text in the addendum or previous edition of the Handbook.
The "Council Fire" Adventure was renamed the "Council Fire (Duty to Country)" Adventure.
In 2020, the Protect Yourself Rules and Yo-Yo preview adventures were introduced and the notes after requirement 4 were added.
Rank advancement is awarded when each Scout has done the following:
- Complete each of the six required Adventures. with your den or family, (Specific requirements for these adventures can be found in this (the) addendum.)
- In addition to the six required adventures listed above previously, complete at least one elective Adventure of your den's or family's choosing.
- With your parent, guardian, or other caring adult, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide.
- Earn the Cyber Chip award for your age. (The Cyber Chip portion of this requirement may be waived by your parent or guardian if you do not have access to the internet.)
Wolf Cub Scouts may also complete either the Protect Yourself Rules or the Yo-Yo Preview Adventure for requirement 2.
The Cyber Chip requirement (4) may be replaced with
earning the
Protect Yourself
Rules Adventure.
If Cub Scouts use the
Protect Yourself
Rules Adventure in place of the Cyber Chip requirement, the
adventure can not be used as an elective for rank.
